Step 10. Staking
Staking is the industry term for the marking of the foundation excavation with wooden stakes. Surveyors using the Plot Plan, the Grade Slip and the Building Plans will mark out on the land the borders of the new foundation so that the excavator will know where to dig. There will be one stake indicating the cut of the excavation. This enables the Excavator to determine how deep to dig the new hole. After the surveyors complete the staking of the lot, they will give a report or guide to the Excavator mapping out their respective wooden stakes.
